Scripture: “Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10
Run. Run. Run. That’s the rhythm most of us live by. The alarm clock rings, and before our feet even touch the floor, our minds are already racing through the day’s responsibilities; work deadlines, kids’ schedules, bills, text messages waiting for replies. Life rarely slows down, and it often feels like we can’t either. The world celebrates busyness, equating worth with productivity. “The more you do, the more valuable you are,” society whispers. And yet God’s Word tells us the opposite: “Be still.”
Finding God in The Chaos
God’s Word tells us the opposite: “Be still.
Stillness is not laziness. Stillness is holy. It’s in the quiet, not the chaos, where God renews our strength and reminds us of His power. When we pause, we’re making a declaration of trust: “God, You are in control. My striving is not what holds this world together, you are.” Five minutes in His presence can anchor us more than an entire day of hustling ever could.
Think about it this way, your phone can’t run forever without recharging. Neither can your soul. If you keep pouring out without being filled, you’ll find yourself running on empty. God doesn’t call us to burnout; He calls us to abide. Stillness is how He recharges us with His peace, clarity, and direction.
But here’s the challenge: being still doesn’t happen by accident. The demands of life will always compete for our attention. Choosing stillness means intentionally pressing pause, even when it feels like we don’t have time. It’s opening our hands, unclenching our schedules, and making space for God’s whisper to break through the noise.
Reflection Questions:
Where in your day can you create space for stillness with God?
What lies do you believe about busyness and worth?
How would your week change if you trusted God enough to pause?
Takeaway: Stillness isn’t wasted time, it’s time that restores your soul and draws you closer to God.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I confess that I often run faster than my soul can handle. I fill my days with lists, deadlines, and distractions, yet my heart remains restless. Today, I choose to slow down. Quiet my anxious thoughts, Lord, and teach me how to sit in Your presence without guilt or hurry. Remind me that my value is not in how much I accomplish but in who I am as Your beloved daughter. Fill the empty places in me with Your peace. Calm the storms that swirl in my mind and replace them with the gentle whisper of Your voice. Lord, help me trust that when I am still, You are still working. Give me the courage to press pause, even when the world tells me I don’t have time. May my spirit find true rest in You, and may that rest overflow into every part of my life, my family, my work, and my relationships. Thank You for being the God who never hurries, yet is always on time. Amen.
Action Step: This week, commit to five minutes of intentional stillness each day. No phone. No distractions. Just sit with God, breathe deeply, and invite Him to speak.
